Synthesis of Nanostructured Copper-doped Titania and Its Properties

Abstract: Nanostructured pure-TiO2 and Cu3%-TiO2 were successfully synthesized via co-precipitation method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) result proves that the synthesized sample were predominantly in anatase phase with size in the range of 8∼16 nm, which are in good agreement with the transmission electron microscopy data. Owing to doping of copper, not only did the thermal stability of the TiO2 decrease, but also a significant decrease in its particle size and a shift of the adsorption edge to a higher wavelength regio… Show more

“…There are few studies about the NPs' size effect on suspension properties, particularly IEP. The size of particles may not only affect the IEP of the suspension but also the surface reactivity, adsorption affinity and photocatalytic activity of NPs [45][46][48][49]. As NPs size decreases, the percentage of surface atom/molecule increases extensively.…”

“…The phase purity and crystalline structure of the powders as well as membranes were determined by X‐ray diffraction pattern (Philips 1710 diffractometer using CuK α radiation, Eindhoven, the Netherlands [α = 1.541 Å]) in the 2θ range of 0–60°C at ambient temperature. The crystallite size was calculated from the X‐ray diffraction peaks using Scherrer formula . DnormalXRD=0.9λβcosθ, where D XRD is the crystallite size in nm, λ is the radiation wave length, and β is width at half peak intensity.…”
