Synthesis of New Nicotinic Acid Derivatives and Their Evaluation as Analgesic and Anti-inflammatory Agents

Abstract: A series of 2-substituted phenyl derivatives of nicotinic acid 4a-l were synthesized and evaluated for their analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. Compounds including 2-bromophenyl substituent, 4a, c, and d, proved to display distinctive analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities in comparison to mefenamic acid as a reference drug. Compound 4c could be identified as the most biologically active member within this study with an interesting dual anti-inflammatory analgesic profile. Effect of the compounds … Show more

“…Many nicotinic acid derivatives have great importance in organic synthesis for their anti‐bacterial and anti‐mycotic activities. [ 1–3 ] On the other hand, Schiff base compounds attract considerable research due to their pharmacological activity and the tendency toward the formation of complexes with almost all the transition metals. [ 4,5 ] These metal complexes of Schiff bases possess high inspect in medicinal chemistry, such as antiviral, anticancer, antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant anticonvulsant, and anti‐inflammatory activities.…”

“…En humanos, se ha encontrado que a dosis de 500 mg muestra efecto hipoglucemiante (Van Dijk, et al, 2009). Otro impacto tangible de esta clase de compuestos son los análogos comerciales del ácido nicotínico con aplicación analgésica, antiinflamatoria y antipirética (AINES), varios de ellos se aplican en la medicina humana como el clonixin, y ácido mefenámico, y otros más en la veterinaria, como el flunixin (Khalil et al, 2013).…”
