“…The monomer FPPMA was prepared from chloropentafluorobenzene and hexafluoroacetone as follows: A flask was equipped with a magnetic stirrer, a thermometer, a gas inlet tube, and a reflux condenser. The upper end of the condenser was attached to a small gas‐washing bottle.…”

“…However, the major disadvantages of PMMA, such as its relatively high refractive index and high water absorption, limit its utility for optical electronic applications . Since introducing fluorine atoms can dramatically improve the thermal and optical properties and decrease water absorption of polymers, we have synthesized various fluorine substituted alkyl and phenyl methacrylates and their copolymers with MMA . Especially, the refractive indices of PMMA and poly(pentafluorophenyl methacrylate) (PPFPMA) were similar: 1.4886 and 1.4838 at 650 nm for PMMA and PPFPMA, respectively.…”

“…Zhou et al, synthesized the fluorinated alkyl methacrylate copolymers consisting of monomers containing different number of -CF 3 end group and methyl methacrylate, and they indicated that the presence of the bulky CF 3 -containing groups caused a positive deviation from the Gordon-Taylor equation due to the dipole-dipole interaction between the CF 3 (CF 2 ) n CH 2 CH 2 O-and the C5 5O groups [30]. When 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl methacrylate containing only one -CF 3 group was used in the copolymer, then it had a good fit with the GordonTaylor equation, however when perfluoro t-butyl methacrylate containing three -CF 3 groups was used in the copolymer, then it had a positive deviation from the Gordon-Taylor equation [30,31]. The free volume of the copolymers can be measured by the positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) as reported in the literature [21,[32][33][34][35][36].…”

“…To raise T g of PMMA, copolymers incorporating monomers with rigid or bulky structures have been reported widely . For example, copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with maleimide (MI) which has a five‐member ring was discussed by Kita et al .…”
