Synthesis of Porous Fe/C Bio-Char Adsorbent for Rhodamine B from Waste Wood: Characterization, Kinetics and Thermodynamics

Abstract: In the past decades, dyes waste waters produced from industries have become a major source of environmental pollution causing the destruction of aquatic communities in the ecosystem and greatly threatened human health. Herein, a novel magnetic adsorbent was synthesized by carbonizing iron (III) 2,4-pentanedionate (Fe(acac)3) pre-enriched forestry waste wood at a pyrolysis temperature of 1000 °C. The characterization of the adsorbent conducted via SEM, EDS, VSM, XRD, XPS, and FT-IR spectroscopy. The adsorption … Show more

“…Three kinetic models, the pseudo-first-order model, pseudo-second-order model and intraparticle diffusion model have been developed in order to describe the adsorption kinetic process of Cd 2+ onto material, see Figure 11 , Figure 12 and Figure 13 and Table 4 . A detailed presentation for each model can be consulted in the literature [ 24 , 40 , 41 ].…”

“…Moreover, the absorption at 1556 cm –1 in the FT-IR spectra of RB-GelMA is indicative of the reaction between the −COOH groups in RB and −NH 2 groups in GelMA. Therefore, the results of both 1 H NMR and FT-IR analysis confirmed the successful conjugation of RB on GelMA. …”

“…The combination of filtration technique with sorption process can lead us to an optimal treatment of oil and other pollutants from the reused water of oily reservoirs washing processes, with a lower cost than when using synthetic sorbents and without harming the environment [ 25 , 26 ]. Whereas many agricultural residue-derived sorbents have been reported [ 26 , 27 ], the breakthrough was explored by using porous Fe/C bio-char adsorbent and a novel phenolic foam-derived magnetic carbon foam.…”
