Abstract:We report the design of pyrene-substituted azobenzene chromophores and their assembly into flat aggregates capable of repeated switching of their absorption and emission properties in response to light and heat. The introduction of a relatively longer butoxy linker between the pyrene and azobenzene (AzBuPy) resulted in the production of more than 90% of cisazobenzene at the photostationary state of ultraviolet (UV) light, as determined by UV-visible absorption and 1 H NMR spectral data. Flat petal-shaped micro… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
