Synthesis of raspberry‐ and confetti‐like hybrid poly(styrene‐co‐2‐vinyl pyrrolidone)/silica nanocomposite particles via alcoholic dispersion polymerization

Abstract: Organic/inorganic hybrid particles with various morphologies play a critical role in the development of advanced materials. In this work, the synthesis of raspberry‐like hybrid poly(styrene‐co‐2‐vinyl pyrrolidone)/nanosilica via dispersion polymerization have been reported, 2‐vinylpyridine involved added to improve the interaction of polymer and nanoparticles. The most important parameters affecting the reaction such as comonomer, cosurfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and initiator concentrations… Show more

“…A variety of synthetic approaches, typically using heterophase polymerization methods, have been employed to create hybrid polymers in colloid systems, such as miniemulsions, [8,[17][18][19] emulsions, [13] and dispersion polymerization. [20][21] Generally, the hybrid particle structure consists of a heterogeneous distribution of inorganic and organic NPs in a polymer matrix of different natures. These hybrid colloids often consist of hydrophilic inorganic NPs and a hydrophobic polymer matrix for practical reasons.…”
