In this paper, we adapt the abstraction refinement techniques of Clarke et al.[7] and Gulavani et al. [15] for systematic generation of model based test cases. Formal models are in general infinite state machines. We approximate such a formal model by a more abstract finite state machine. From the finite model, we obtain probable test cases through model checking, and then a guided symbolic execution is performed over the given formal model to check if this is a real test case. In case of failure, the finite abstract model is refined and the cycle is repeated. The two main results of this paper are: (a) better specification coverage is achieved, and (b) we obtain a more accurate coverage estimate. We explain our method by considering models in the specification language B.

In this paper we present an extension of the previously reported model-based testing approach that is based on formal models and user-provided testing scenarios. In this approach, the user provides a testing scenario on the level of an abstract model. When the abstract model is refined to add or modify features, the corresponding testing scenarios are automatically refined to incorporate these changes. The resulting testing scenarios are unfolded into the test cases containing the required inputs and expected outputs. To automate this test case generation process, we provide guidelines for the formal development of system models. We use Event-B as our formal framework. We also propose a method for automatic generation of Java implementation templates for Event-B specifications. Moreover, the corresponding testing scenarios are translated into JUnit test cases.

Abstract. This paper is about generating tests from test purposes, in addition to structural tests. We present a method that re-uses a behavioural model and an abstract test concretization layer developed for structural testing, and relies on additional test purposes. We propose, in the B framework, a process of test generation that uses the symbolic animation mechanisms of LTG (Leirios Test Generator) based on constraint solving, and guided by the test purposes. We build for that a B animable model that is the synchronized product of a behavioural B abstract model and a test purpose described as a labelled transition system. We prove the correctness of this method, and illustrate it by means of the IAS case study. IAS is a smart-card application dedicated to the operations of Identification, Authentication and electronic Signature.
