Synthesis of Si-Based Refractory Compounds from Coconut Shell by Carbothermal Method

Abstract: The synthesis of Si-based refractory compounds from coconut shells (CS) by carbothermal treatment was investigated. Coconut shells, an agro-waste was utilised in the processing of the Si-based refractory compounds in a single stage carbothermal processing route. The treatment scheduled was carried out in a conventional heat treatment furnace at a temperature window of (900-1900 °C) at 10 °C/min heating rate in a controlled atmosphere. X-ray Diffractometer (XRD) was used to analyzed and quantify the crystalline… Show more

“…The phenomenon of secondary contraction will cause cracks between the mortar circuit and the bricks, peeling mortar and leading to lower thermal resistance of the materials. Walls and arches will subside gradually for quality and will be destroyed [1][2][3][4][5][8][9][10][11][12][13][14].…”

“…Therefore, the geopolymer belongs to group of the low calcium alkaline activated materials [7,10,[16][17][18][19]. Geopolymer-based materials are also known as alumino-silicate or inorganic polymer materials which have many superior application features such as capable of setting rapidly with high final compressive strength, highly resistant to chemical attack, high heat resistance at high temperature, more especially, it has ability to increase the strength when burnt because of sintering phenomena of the ceramic materials, and others [7,[10][11][12][13][14][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28].…”
