Synthesis of Superhydrophobic Barium Hexaferrite Coatings with Low Magnetic Hardness

Abstract: Using the multifunctional material barium hexaferrite as an example, the prospects for treatment at a quasi-equilibrium low temperature in an open atmosphere to form superhydrophobic magnetic coatings with pronounced crystalline and magnetic anisotropy have been demonstrated for the first time. The relationship between plasma treatment conditions, structural-phase composition, morphology, and superhydrophobic properties of (0001) films of barium hexaferrite BaFe12O19 on C-sapphire is studied. X-ray photoelectr… Show more

“…To identify the elements found in both pure samples and nanocomposites and their oxidation states, XPS measurements are employed. Figure 6 Every survey spectrum from the previous pure samples matches the prior studies [88][89][90]. The existence of peaks in the C2 survey spectrum that correspond to nickel, oxygen, barium, and iron, along with the absence of peaks for zinc, indicates the formation of the C2 nanocomposite and validates the results of the XRD technique.…”

“…In order to solve this problem, researchers normally employ oxidation treatment, acid–base surface modification, and hydrophobic coating in an attempt to improve the surface hydrophobicity of APC [ 32 ]. The former two methods are usually deemed to be laborious with limited enhancement in the hydrophobization of APC [ 33 ]. Low surface-energy materials have been used for surface grafting, e.g., silane solutions, Teflon, and other moisture-repellent polymeric materials, to enhance the surface hydrophobicity [ 33 ].…”

Liu et al synthesized a series of hydrophobic-modified (polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) coating)-activated carbons (AC) by depositing PDMS on AC using a thermal evaporation method [ 32 ].…”

“…Plasma treatment, as one of the methods of surface modification, is the most used today [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ]. The advantage is the ability to process objects of complex shapes.…”
