Synthesis of Supported Bimetal Catalysts using Galvanic Deposition Method

Abstract: Supported bimetallic catalysts have been studied because of their enhanced catalytic properties due to metal-metal interactions compared with monometallic catalysts. We focused on galvanic deposition (GD) as a bimetallization method, which achieves well-defined metal-metal interfaces by exchanging heterogeneous metals with different ionisation tendencies. We have developed Ni@Ag/SiO catalysts for CO oxidation, Co@Ru/Al O catalysts for automotive three-way reactions and Pd-Co/Al O catalysts for methane combusti… Show more

“…The galvanic reduction method was an effective process to get a surface noble metal-rich catalyst [ 65 , 66 , 67 , 68 , 69 , 70 , 71 , 72 ]. However, when the pure metallic non-noble metal nanoparticles were used for the galvanic reduction process, the noble metal atoms tended to aggregate into large particles on the surface of the non-noble metal as on other supports.…”

“…Although monometallic catalysts have good catalytic performance in the field of catalysis, the single active site has many limitations in electrochemical NRR. [81][82][83] Bimetallic materials with dual-active-center can significantly improve the catalytic effect through synergistic coupling. Li et al successfully synthesized foordite SnNb 2 O 6 by a two-step hydrothermal approach.…”

“…The preparation of TWC catalysts with different structures without changing the composition of the catalyst can improve the catalytic efficiency of TWC. Mahara et al successfully synthesized a Co@Ru/Al 2 O 3 catalyst for automotive ternary reaction via galvanic deposition (GD) as a bimetallization method [94]. As shown in Figure 6a, Ru is concentrated in the shell, and Co is concentrated in the core, and only a small part of Ru and Co form an alloy at the interface.…”
