Synthesis of Thermochromic Mo-Doped VO2 Particles

Abstract: Mo-doped vanadium dioxide particles were produced by simple solution-based, rapid microwave assisted, and calcination in an inert gas method respectively. The precursors and the heat-treated final powders were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The Mo dopant influenced the crystal structure and phase transition of VO2 (M) particles. The XRD pattern indicated that all Mo-doped VO2 p… Show more

“…Metal ion doping of VO 2 thin films is an effective approach to reduce T C . It mainly involves doping with cations and anions, such as tungsten [ 15,16 ], molybdenum [ 17 ], silicon [ 18 ], fluorine [ 19,20 ], niobium [ 21 ], and lanthanum [ 22 ]. Among these dopants, tungsten is most effective, lowering T C by 20 °C per 1 at% [ 15 ].…”

“…As has been reported, the T MIT of VO 2 can be altered via the cation-doping method. There are two classes of V 1−x M x O 2 doped system: T MIT increases slightly for M = Al 3+ [10], Cr 3+ [11], Fe 3+ [12,13], and Ti 4+ [14][15][16][17][18], while it declines in an obvious manner in M = W 6+ , Mo 6+ [19][20][21][22][23]. Among them, the M 3+ and M 6+ ions replacing V 4+ ions will complexify the system.…”
