Synthesis of TiO2nanoparticles at low hydrothermal temperature and its performance for DSSC sensitized using natural dye extracted fromMelastoma malabathricumL. seeds

Abstract: Summary Efficiency of a dye‐sensitized solar cell (DSSC) device depends on its semiconductor layer and the sensitizing dye to absorb the light. This work seeks to obtain the best solvent for the natural dye extraction from Melastoma malabathricum L. seeds. The extracted dye is used as sensitizer on TiO2 nanoparticles produced via hydrothermal but optimized at relatively low temperature. Infrared characterization of the extracted dyes showed differences in functional groups using different solvents, whereas ult… Show more

“…to potentially inhibit nosocomial infection, because it utilizes the abundant and natural sunlight. In the last decades, transition metal (TM) semiconductors photocatalyst can be potential candidates as inactivation microbial species, and the followings are the most recognized and studied materials: TiO 2 , ZnO, WO 3 , MoO 3 , and CeO 2 [ 50 55 ]. However, some of the semiconductors corrode and degrade during photocatalytic reactions thus resulting the dissolution of semiconductor materials in the reaction system.…”

“…The solvothermal method is analog to the hydrothermal method except that they are carried out in non-aqueous media. The disadvantage of these two methods is the high temperature and pressure, and the high cost of the autoclave to run at temperatures and pressures of up to 300 and 10 bar, respectively [3,4]. The sol-gel method (chemical solution deposition) avoids the previously mentioned disadvantages and is a well-established synthetic approach for the preparation of metal oxides.…”
