Synthesis of Two‐Phase SiAlONs in the Yttrium–Silicon–Aluminum–Oxygen–Nitrogen System

Abstract: The reaction sequences of formation of different SiAlON phases along the Si 3 N 4 -Y 2 O 3 ⅐9AlN-AlN⅐Al 2 O 3 concentration plane in the Y-Si-Al-O-N system have been studied through dilatometric investigations. The presence and stability of some crystalline phases greatly influence the nature of the liquid, which ultimately governs the sintering process.
