Synthesis of water-based cationic polyacrylate copolymer emulsion by RAFT polymerization and its application as an inkjet printing agent

Abstract: Purpose In this work, the authors used reversible addition-fragmentation transfer (RAFT) polymerization to develop a new cationic acrylate modified epoxy resin emulsion for water-borne inkjet which have the advantages of both polyacrylate and epoxy resin. The emulsion was successfully used in the canvas coating for inkjet printing. This paper aims to contribute to the development of novel cationic emulsions for inkjet printing industry. Design/methodology/approach In this work, the epoxy acrylate was synthes… Show more

“…Such products have adjustable molecular structure, strong affinity with fibers, and good film forming, water resistance and thermoplasticity, so they have become a research hotspot in recent years. [2][3][4] Among them, styrene-acrylic emulsion polymer (SAE) surface sizing agent features the advantages of excellent film forming property, good weather resistance, excellent adhesion and printing adaptability. 5,6 It can not only greatly improve the surface strength, sizing degree, stiffness and smoothness of the paper, but also greatly reduce the phenomenon of cross color, through printing, hair loss and powder loss in color printing.…”

“…With the development of polymer synthesis, polymer surface sizing agents prepared from petroleum by‐products such as styrene and acrylate are more and more widely used in paper industry. Such products have adjustable molecular structure, strong affinity with fibers, and good film forming, water resistance and thermoplasticity, so they have become a research hotspot in recent years 2–4 . Among them, styrene‐acrylic emulsion polymer (SAE) surface sizing agent features the advantages of excellent film forming property, good weather resistance, excellent adhesion and printing adaptability 5,6 .…”
