Synthesis of yellow pyridonylazo colorants and their application in dye–pigment hybrid colour filters for liquid crystal display

Abstract: Nine yellow azo dyes were designed and synthesised by using different diazo components and pyridonyl coupling components for application in dye-pigment hybrid colour filters for liquid crystal displays. The synthesised dyes were characterised by proton nuclear magnetic resonance and elemental analysis. The thermal stability was examined by thermogravimetric analysis, and solubility was estimated in industrial solvents such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and propylene glycol methyl ether acetate. The dyes, which exh… Show more

“…All of the 3‐aryl‐ and 3‐hetaryl‐azo‐ 4‐hydroxyquinolin‐2(1 H )‐one dyes were synthesised from the reaction of the appropriate diazonium salt with 6, 8‐dichloro‐4‐hydroxyquinolin‐2(1 H )‐one 4 using classical reported procedures for the synthesis of azo compounds . The crude products were purified by recrystallisation with DMF‐H 2 O and then analysed.…”

“…Organic compounds of this type can be used as chromophoric systems for many kinds of applications such as in the dyeing of polyesters, polyamides and acrylics. In addition, they could be used as organic photoconductors, in liquid crystal displays, photosensitizers and other non-textile applications [11,14,15].…”
