Synthesis of ZSM-5 zeolites from biomass power plant ash for removal of ionic dyes from aqueous solution: equilibrium isotherm, kinetic and thermodynamic analysis

Abstract: In this work, industrial biomass power plant ash was used to synthesize the ZSM-5 zeolites for the first time with the original intention to turn value-added material into wealth, and then committed to adsorption performance testing.

“…From 2018 to present, scientists have paid close attention to the synthesis and application of ZSM‐5 from fly ash, as evidenced by the growing number of publications. Some research has focused on the optimization of crystal formation 81 or the external surface phenomena in the dealumination and desilication of ZSM‐5, 142 while others concentrated on the catalytic 83,125,143,144 or adsorptive performance 80,90,126,145,146 . To be more specific, ZSM‐5 has been successfully used to eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or hazardous substances in aqueous solutions via adsorption.…”

“…During the 50 h of experimental assessment of the catalytic convertor, no significant deactivation of the convertor was found 125 . Other VOCs or hazardous compounds efficiently eliminated by ZSM‐5 were phenol quinoline, indole, benzene, toluene, and anionic dyes 80,90,126 …”

“…ZSM-5 type acid zeolites 21–25 have been widely used in catalysis because of their excellent features such as strong acidity, superior hydrothermal stability, unique shape selectivity and so on. Based on the above consideration, herein we reported an acid-stable catalyst Ru/ZSM-5, which simultaneously achieved the complete decomposition of hydroxylamine nitrate (0.3 mol L −1 ) and hydrazine nitrate (0.1 mol L −1 ) in 1.0 mol L −1 HNO 3 under moderate conditions (80 °C).…”
