Synthesis, photophysical and electrochemical properties of perylene dyes

Abstract: a b s t r a c t Perylene dyes comprising: (i) 4-alkoxyphenylamino moiety in the 9-position as a strong donating group, (ii) cyanoacrylic acid as electron acceptor and anchoring group and (iii) a triple bond as short and rigid linker between perylene core and the acceptor group have been successfully synthesized. Their photophysical (i.e. absorption and emission spectra, molar extinction coefficients, fluorescence quantum yields and lifetime measurements) and electrochemical properties were investigated. The dy… Show more

“…This fact is a direct consequence of Zeonex greater molecular weight, which represents an average polymer chain length. The weight-average molecular weight (M w ) of Topas 5013 was measured to be 76400 g/mol [22] whereas the M w of Zeonex 480R is approximately 480000 g/mol [29], which is six times larger than that of Topas 5013. The melt flow index that is the flowability, of a thermoplastic material in general decreases with increasing M w [30].…”

“…For the synthesis of Y-Per 8,aPd-catalyzedS uzuki cross-coupling was carriedout between bromo-perylene 6 [28] and 4,4'-biphenyldiboronic acid (bis)pinacol ester 7 in the presence of [Pd(PPh 3 ) 4 ]a nd K 2 CO 3 to afford the corresponding boronic ester in 72 %yield. The subsequentremoval of the pinacolprotectingg roup by oxidative cleavagew ith NaIO 4 and treatment with a1m aqueous solution of HCl, afforded the desired boronic acid Y-Per 8 in 90 %y ield (Scheme 1).…”

“…The other significant property of perylene derivatives is their high charge transfer properties which pave the way for enhanced electrochemical properties. [9] Modifying perylene and bay positions of perylene core with suitable reagents results with directing the optical and electrochemical properties. Especially functionalizing the peri part, outcome with the regulation of electrochemical and spectroscopic properties.…”
