Synthesis, Properties and Photocatalytic Activity of CaTiO3-Based Ceramics Doped with Lanthanum

Abstract: The aim of this work is to study the effect of lanthanum doping on the phase formation processes in ceramics based on CaTiO3, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of the ceramics as photocatalysts for the decomposition of the organic dye Rhodamine B. The methods used were scanning electron microscopy to evaluate the morphological features of the synthesized ceramics, X-ray diffraction to determine the phase composition and structural parameters, and UV-Vis spectroscopy to determine the optical properties o… Show more

“…These observed peaks correspond to orthorhombic symmetry with a perovskite-like structure 14 , 34 . Minor secondary phases were observed in the XRD pattern, which belongs to TiO 2, Ca(OH) 2, and CaO phases 35 , 36 . The average crystallite size of CaTiO 3 was estimated using WinFit 1.2.1 (1997) software 37 , which was approximately 24.5 nm.…”

“…The structural properties of CaTiO 3 perovskite have been calculated using QuantumATK Tool version U-2022.12 SP1 [27] methodology based on the GGA (Generalized Gradient Approximation) and PBE (Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof) [30][31][32] functionals for Linear Combination of Atomic Orbitals (LCAO) calculator. The numerical accuracy parameters-density mesh cutoff was set at 125 Hartee, k-point sampling was taken (5 × 5 × 4) with occupation method of Fermi-Dirac keeping tolerance 0.0001 and broadening 1000 K. The basic set of medium Pseudopotential [30] with PseudoDojo [33][34][35][36][37] and theoretical results [41,42,45,47]. The difference in the lattice paramter betweeen our result and experimental results are 0.32%, 0.29% and 0.06% for a, b, and c respectively which is proof for the excellent validity and accurancy of the results.…”

“…Several approaches have been explored in the literature to enhance the light-harvesting capacity of ATiO 3 perovskites. One successful method incorporates metal dopants, such as Rh, La, Al, and Bi, into the ATiO 3 lattice. These dopants can either replace Ti 4+ ions in the lattice structure or occupy interstitial positions. Suitable metal dopants (i) regulate the charge carrier concentration, mobility, and lifetime and (ii) create doping-induced states exhibiting localized or delocalized characteristics between the valence band (VB) and the conduction band (CB) .…”
