Synthesizing Aluminum alloys by double mechanical alloying

Abstract: A new synthesis technique, namely double mechanical alloying (dMA), has been developed to fabricate aluminum alloys containing the finely distributed intermetallic compounds and inert dispersoids Al 4 C 3 and AIP3' The technique consists mainly of three steps: a primary milling stage of elemental powders (MAl) followed by a heat treatment to promote the formation of intermetallic phases, a secondary milling stage (MA2) to refine the microstructure, and consolidation of the produced powders.
