Synthetic, spectral, thermal and antimicrobial studies on some bis(N,N′‐dialkyldithiocarbamato) antimony(III) alkylenedithiophosphates

Abstract: CH(CH 3 )-CH(CH 3 )-and -C(CH 3 ) 2 -C(CH 3 ) 2 -] were synthesized and characterized by physico-chemical, spectral [UV, IR and NMR( 1 H, 13 C and 31 P)] and thermal (TG, DTA and DSC) analysis. The TG decomposition analysis step of the complex indicated the formation of Sb 2 S 3 as the final product. The first endothermic peak in DSC indicated the melting point of the complexes. These complexes were screened for their antimicrobial activities using the disk diffusion method. All the complexes showed good activ… Show more

“…Sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate (Aldrich) was used as received. Tris(N,N-dimethyldithiocarbamato-S,S 0 )antimony(III) was prepared by some modification (solvent acetonitrile instead of benzene) of the method reported in the literature (Chauhan & Singh, 2007).…”

“…Distortion in the coordination polyhedra may occur due to the steriochemically active lone pair of electrons and small ligand bite. The band of weak intensity at 387-364 cm -1 occurs due to Sb-S stretching vibration [22,31]. Thus the presence of one new band due to Sb-S and shifting of [P=S] band indicating the bidentate nature of O,O'-alkylene dithiophosphate (Table 2).…”

“…The above results explain the elevated antimicrobial activities of metal derivatives with oxygen and sulfur donor ligands which may be due to the presence of metal-oxygen and metal-sulfur bonding. [16,31]…”

“…[9][10][11][12] Dialkyldithiophosphoric acids are widely used in analytical chemistry (in the instrumental determination of metals and in extraction and complexation). [13] These types of derivatives show activity against various bacterial and fungal species [14][15][16] and have been examined for their antimicrobial activities using the well diffusion method. The free ligands as well as their metal complexes were tested in vitro against four bacterial species (Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 9144) and Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6051) and Gram-negative Escherichia coli (ATCC 9637) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 25619)) and two plant fungal species (Aspergillus niger (ATCC 9029) and Trichoderma reesei (ATCC 164)).…”
