Synthetic strategies for aryl/heterocyclic selenides and tellurides under transition-metal-catalyst free conditions

Abstract: Synthesis of aryl and heteroaryl selenides and tellurides are summerized under transition free sustainable conditions by using greener reagents and techniques such as ball milling, microwave heating, ultrasound, visible light photocatalysis etc.

“…Aryl and heteroaryl selenides represent an important class of organic compounds due to their application in the fields of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and materials (Figure 1). [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] As a consequence, the development of methods to access such compounds is highly soughtafter. Among the developed strategies, palladium- [8][9][10] or copper- [11][12][13] catalyzed selenylation reactions of aryl halides play an important role in the construction of unsymmetrical diaryl selenides due to their high efficiency.…”

“…In light of increasing attention to environmentally friendly C-Se cross-coupling alternatives, Kundu comprehensively discussed recent advances on transition-metal free C-Se/Te bond-formation reactions, including unconventional methods such as microwave-and ultrasound-assisted synthesis and ball-milling strategies. 12 In particular, Laulhé 13 and Rueping 14 independently developed photoinduced C-Se cross-coupling reactions applying electron donor-acceptor (EDA) concept, accessing numerous diaryl sel-…”

“…Extensive research studies have been conducted on catalysts exhibiting excellent HER performance. , For example, transition metal sulfides, phosphides, , selenides, , and nitrides , have been extensively investigated for their excellent hydrogen evolution properties. Among them, CoSe 2 has received increasing attention owing to its cost-effectiveness, excellent HER performance, and diverse crystal morphologies and properties. , Nevertheless, CoSe 2 exhibited moderate HER catalytic activity because of the active sites located at the edge of the material and the low number and density of sites .…”
