AbstractSyphilis is an overlooked cause of hepatitis. Syphilitic hepatitis should be a differential diagnosis in all patients with abnormal liver biochemical marker levels. Syphilitic hepatitis has been defined as the combination of increased liver enzymes, positive serology for syphilis, the absence of alternative causes for hepatobiliary injury, and liver enzyme improvement with proper antibiotic therapy.
