System for measuring optical waveguide intensity profiles

Abstract: We have developed a computer controlled system to measure the intensity profile of optical waveguides. Knowledge of the intensity profile provides an indication of the shape of the waveguide , and therefore the degree to which light can be coupled to the guide from an optical fiber. This report describes the construction and operation of this system.
