“…17,18 To our knowledge, there is no study that reviews the quality of published guidelines for clinical practice in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Several systematic reviews have been conducted to compare the quality of guidelines among high-income countries including the United states [19][20][21] and Europe. [22][23][24][25][26] Similar systematic reviews were also performed for low-and middle-income countries including Turkey, 7 China, 9 and Sri Lanka.…”

“…Sub-optimal use of allopurinol is common, ULT is often underutilised by clinicians, or when it is initiated is often prescribed at a fixed dose, therefore underdosing [ 11 , 54 , 57 ]. Under-dosing may be due to fear of kidney damage, which has not been supported by evidence or allopurinol hypersensitivity, a rare yet highly fatal adverse reaction [ 4 , 58 – 60 ]. Clinicians should be aware of potential side effects and prescribe ULT in accordance with CPGs guidance, titrating dose as required.…”

“…The most commonly used tool to assess guideline quality is the AGREE II instrument [30], which appraises the methodological rigor and transparency in the development of guidelines across six domains: scope and purpose, stakeholder involvement, rigor of development, clarity and presentation, applicability, and editorial independence. Two studies used the AGREE II instrument to evaluate 27 EULAR CPGs published between 2000 and 2014 and 13 ACR CPGs published between 1999 and 2015 across multiple rheumatologic diseases [31,32]. A third more recent study analyzed 16 rheumatology CPGs from a variety of organizations including ACR and EULAR published between 2016 and 2021 [33].…”
