“…In our cohort of 'pre-operative' patients, 29 (30.8%) had a diagnosis of IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reactions, lending weight to this argument. Further support for investigating unexplained peri-operative adverse reactions comes from the study by Malinovsky et al [37], who also demonstrated that a systematic approach to investigating such reactions identified the culprit agent in a significant number of cases.…”

“…68,73 Only one of these studies, a single-centre survey, provided a rate based on a known number of patients and even this was approximate: Malinowsky et al 68 reported 6 cases of anaphylaxis among approximately 70,000 exposures, a rate of 1/11,667. Three cases were attributed to succinylcholine and one each to rocuronium, atracurium and cisatracurium.…”

“…The test appears to be the most efficient test to screen sera for the presence of IgE antibodies to ammonium groups of NMBAs. Guilloux and coworkers have reported 97% specificity and 94% positive predictive value of the PAPPC RIA (40). No inhibition test has been done to detect the specificity of the antibodies detected by the PAPPC-RIA.…”
