Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences between labour market requirements in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the 21st century and university graduates’ level of knowledge, skills and aspects of competence (KSAs) qualification benchmark.Design/methodology/approach The study used a discourse analysis methodology, which is a qualitative and interpretive method of analysing texts. The content for the analysis was extracted from Scopus, Ebscohost, Proquest, Google Scholar, Web of Science, news, publications, thesis papers, dissertations and other research papers. A narrative approach for analysing the content was adopted.FindingsThe findings reveal that new graduates often encounter difficulties in searching for jobs due to a lack of awareness of how to conduct an employment search that best aligns their KSA with the requirements and needs of the labour market. The study concludes that to increase the employability of graduates, higher education institutions should reduce the KSAs gap by collaborating with the private sector and providing students with relevant, industry-based job experience before graduation.Originality/value This study investigates the gap between graduate KSAs and labour market requirements in the 21st-century UAE. The findings of the study encapsulate the weaknesses and shortcomings of the current educational systems amid the reform agenda in the UAE. It also deliberates upon the state-of-the-art recommendations regarding making the country a knowledge-based economy and society.

The educational issues in one of the public schools in the northern region of Malaysia were worrying due to the lack of English teachers. There were only two English teachers out of 45 for all 343 pupils, translating to an instructor-to-student ratio of 1:171. This scenario brought a negative impact on the hopes of parents, the possibilities for students to succeed in English, and their self-esteem. The aim of this study was to investigate the perception of students towards online learning, the online accessibility level of students, and the mental readiness level of students for English online learning. The school consists of students who reside in suburban and rural areas. This study discovered that students' perceptions of online learning, online learning accessibility, and mental readiness for English online learning were all below the moderate level, indicating that they were struggling with online learning. This study was conducted to contribute adequate information on the condition of the students in the urban area towards online learning, and it can be used as a guide for policymakers in developing education policies that are both effective and feasible, allowing them to take the necessary steps to avoid students from falling behind in the exam.

Online shopping is a critical activity when the covid19 pandemic strikes. It is due to the use of information technology can reduce the risk of being infected by the covid19 virus. The use of information technology is an important medium to support social distancing. However, the rejection of the use of information technology during pandemics will hamper government efforts to curb the covid19 pandemic. Therefore, this study aims to identify the role of gender in moderates the relationship between behavioural intention and online shopping adoption during the movement control order (MCO). This study is a quantitative study and data were collected using a questionnaire instrument. The total number of respondents for this study is 280 respondents. The results of the study found that gender does not play a significant role as a moderator of the relationship between perceived behavioral control and the intention to use online shopping.
