Systematic review of diagnostic tools for peritoneal metastasis in gastric cancer-staging laparoscopy and its alternatives

Si Ying Adelina Ho,
Kon Voi Tay

Abstract: Postcholecystectomy bile duct injury (BDI) remains a devastating iatrogenic complication that adversely impacts the quality of life with high healthcare costs. Despite a decrease in the incidence of laparoscopic cholecystectomy-related BDI, the absolute number remains high as cholecystectomy is a commonly performed surgical procedure. Open Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy with meticulous surgical technique remains the gold standard surgical procedure with excellent long-term results in most patients. As with many… Show more

“…Additionally, the absence of robust diagnostic tools for the early detection of PM constitutes a significant barrier to enhancing patient outcomes. Currently, staging laparoscopy is increasingly utilized because of its superior diagnostic precision in identifying PM in gastric cancer patients compared to computed tomography (CT) or positron emission tomography CT (PET-CT) scans [ 10 13 ]. Despite its advantages, the broader adoption of staging laparoscopy as a standard practice is impeded by its invasive nature, necessity for general anesthesia, and comparatively higher costs [ 10 ].…”
