Systematic review ofAnteaeolidiella(Mollusca, Nudibranchia, Aeolidiidae) based on morphological and molecular data, with a description of three new species

Abstract: Partial sequences of two mitochondrial genes and one nuclear gene from Anteaeolidiella specimens collected throughout temperate and tropical areas in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, eastern Pacific, and Indo‐Pacific have revealed the existence of a species complex under the name of Anteaeolidiella indica (Bergh, 1888). Further examination showed consistent differences in colour pattern and the internal anatomy that became evident only once the molecular outcomes were analysed. Moreover, the original description o… Show more

“…Tissue samples were taken from the foot. Extraction, amplification, purification, and sequencing of portions of the COI, 16S rRNA, and H3 genes followed the methods described in Carmona et al (2013Carmona et al ( , 2014a. Sequence reactions were run on a 3730XL DNA sequencer (Applied Biosystems).…”

“…The genus Anteaeolidiella was reviewed by Carmona et al (2014a) and none of the specimens illustrated have the same colour pattern as the Mozambican specimen. The holotype of Anteaeolidiella fijensis from Fiji has a similar colour pattern on the head, rhinophores and oral tentacles, however the white dorsal mark differs: in the Mozambican specimen it is further posterior, around the fifth ceratal row.…”
