Systemic Acquired Resistance of Soybean to Soybean Rust Induced by Shale Water

Abstract: Shale water as a by-product obtained by Petrobras, Brazil, during the process of extraction of petroleum from fossil rock may act as an inducer of Systemic Acquired Resistance (SAR) to some plant pathogens. The objective of the present investigation was to verify the effect of seed treatment and foliar application with shale water in inducing SAR of soybean to soybean rust under greenhouse and field conditions. In greenhouse experiments, seed treatment alone with shale water significantly reduced the severity … Show more

“…Besides agronomic practices, foliar application of some natural compounds such as Farnesyl-acetate [131], Acibenzolar-S-methyl [132], essential oils from H. marrubioides, A. gratissima, and C. verbenacea [133], coffee oil [134]; seed treatment with shale water [135]; root drenching with saccharin [136] were also reported to be effective in the suppression of SBR severity, but their actual efficacy for effective SBR control is still awaiting assessment under field conditions.…”

“…First, it establishes a physical penetration barrier when deposited in the subcuticular layer and second, it primes plants for enhanced defense ( Ma and Yamaji, 2006 ; da Cruz et al, 2013 ). Furthermore, soil application of saccharin and shale water were reported to induce SBR resistance in soybean ( Srivastava et al, 2011 ; Mehta et al, 2015 ). These examples illustrate the potential of SBR biocontrol.…”

“…Dentre as formas alternativas já utilizadas em outros patossistemas é possível citar o uso de extratos vegetais , óleos essenciais (GONÇALVES et al, 2009;VENTUROSO, 2009;FONTANA et al, 2017;PERINA et al, 2013) e a indução de resistência, que além de colaborar com o controle de fitopatógenos pode vir aliado a efeitos bioestimulantes (MEHTA et al, 2015;CRUZ, et al, 2013;XING, et al, 2020).…”
