“…As ventricular systole is sometimes unable to overcome aortic arterial pressure, aortic regurgitation during the whole systole may occur. The phenomenon of systolic aortic regurgitation has been described in patients with syncope [3] and heart failure [4], and rather than a physiological oxymoron, is not an exceptional finding in clinical practice [4,5]. We present the case of a patient with systolic aortic regurgitation immediately after TAVI.…”

“…Systolic aortic regurgitation has been regarded as a curious quirk with little clinical value, beyond its worth as an echocardiographic quiz or as physiological oxymoron. The frequency of SAR is low, but perhaps it is an overlooked phenomenon as its explanation seems counterintuitive . Presence of SAR in an echocardiographic study should be detected and reported as it may be clinically useful.…”

“…An exploratory study found that SAR was specifically associated with HF , but diagnostic accuracy could not be reported. Echocardiographic demonstration of SAR is infrequent but not exceptional . The main function of the heart is to transform biochemical energy into mechanical pressure to make blood flow in an organized and uninterrupted way.…”

“…Like systolic AR, physicians are acquired to focus more on systolic PR. 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 Before elucidating systolic PR, systolic AR might provide some clues. Based on data, the prevalence of systolic AR is higher in HF population (5.9% vs. 2.1%).…”

“…Systolic AR had been identified in valvular heart disease or heart failure (HF) and showed capability for predicting HF. 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 Systolic AR was explained as the inability of the ventricular contraction to overcome the aortic pressure in patients with valvular incompetence. This phenomenon is associated with pulsus alternans and ineffective contraction, which is common in severe left‐side HF.…”
