Table-top high-energy 7  μm OPCPA and 260  mJ Ho:YLF pump laser

Abstract: We present the state of the art of a compact high-energy midinfrared laser system for TW-level 8-cycle pulses at 7 µm. This system consists of an Er:Tm:Ho:fiber MOPA which serves as the seeder for a ZGP-based OPCPA chain in addition to a Ho:YLF amplifier which is Tm:fiber pumped. Featuring all-optical synchronization, the system delivers 260-mJ pump energy at 2052 nm, 16-ps duration at 100 Hz with a stability of 0.8 % rms over 20 min. We show that chirp inversion in the OPCPA chain leads to excellent energy ex… Show more

“…The electron beam duration is 27 fs, but its time of arrival from the linac may jitter by tens to hundreds of femtoseconds, so a pulse length of at least hundreds of femtoseconds to a few picoseconds is needed to cover the jitter for stable operation. Ho:YLF lasers operate at 2 μm and are capable of producing picosecond pulses with hundreds of millijoules of pulse energy, which is more than sufficient for this application [32].…”

“…These crystals are not transparent in the NIR, hence require pumping above 2 µm. Recent progresses in Ho ionbased ultrafast amplifier systems [20,[22][23][24] allow direct pumping of OPAs to amplify the pulses in MIR [22,[25][26][27].…”

“…Moreover, their sizes are limited by growth method. Among these crystals, the (ZGP) crystal is commercially available with an aperture up to 1 inch ( ) [44] , so it has been adopted in recent OPCPA systems beyond [4042] . Unfortunately, most semiconductor crystals, including ZGP, exhibit strong absorption to the well-established pump laser at approximately .…”
