Tables of the dynamic and kinematic viscosity of aqueous NaCl solutions in the temperature range 20–150 °C and the pressure range 0.1–35 MPa

Abstract: Tabulated values of the dynamic and kinematic viscosity of aqueous sodium chloride solutions are given. The tables cover the temperature range 20-150 "C, the pressure range 0:1-35 MPa and the concentration range 0-6 molal. It is estimated that the accuracy of the tabulated v~lues of ±0.5%. The correlating equations from which the tables were generated are given.

“…The curves were calculated from Equation (11) . This is about three orders of magnitude lower than the diffusivity of ionized NaCl in bulk solution (about 10 -9 m 2 /s; Kestin et al, 1981). Taking higher values of Z will reduce this difference, but we think that our experimental data suggest that the intrinsic "grain boundary" diffusivity may be substantially lower than the diffusivity of ionized NaCl in bulk fluid, in agreement with earlier interpretations Spiers et al, 1990;Schutjens‚ 1991b).…”

“…With g≈9.81 m sec −2 , η≈1.09 mP sec [18], ρ p ≈1.24 g cm −3 , ρ f ≈1.036 g cm −3 [11], we obtain a maximum settling time of about 16 min for a crystal of size 1 μm. That time is comparable to the length of the detection interval (20 min) and the settling of bulk crystals will generally have a negligible effect on the probability measurement accuracy.…”

“…The kinematic viscosity of the saline mixture, ν, is a function of temperature, pressure and concentration of salt and is herein obtained through the results presented in Kestin et al [30]. Densities of the saline mixture and of the ambient fluid are determined at the beginning of each run.…”
