Show more

“…Some studies provide specific details as to how regions are delineated [e.g., Rehkämper et al, 1991;Boire and Baron, 1994;Timmermans et al, 2000;Lefebvre et al, 2002], but others provide little or no information [e.g., Reboreda et al, 1996;Fernandez et al, 1997;Abbott et al, 1999;Pistone et al, 2002]. Because of this uncertainty, the analyses of data derived from several sources can be affected by different definitions of brain region borders among studies and could have contributed to the variability in the present study.…”

“…This included data for 4 more psittaciforms [Boire and Baron, 1994;Fernandez et al, 1997; Ebinger andLöhmer, 1984, 1987;Sherry et al, 1989;Rehkämper et al, 1991;Krebs, 1992, 1996;DeVoogd et al, 1993;Boire and Baron, 1994;Ebinger, 1995;Ebinger and Röhrs, 1995;Basil et al, 1996;Reboreda et al, 1996;Szekely et al, 1996;Abbott et al, 1999;Hauber et al, 1999;Pistone et al, 2002;Pravosudov et al, 2002;see table 3]. Lastly, data for primate telencephalic volumes were taken from Stephan et al [1981].…”

“…Similarly, sample sizes and brain region volumes differ for some species in this study compared to previous studies [Iwaniuk and Hurd, 2005;Iwaniuk et al, , 2008Iwaniuk andWylie, 2006, 2007] because we selected those individuals from which we could reliably measure as many of the three brain regions as possible. In addition to our own data, we gleaned brain region volumes from the literature for an additional 41 species [Ebinger and Löh-mer, 1987;Boire, 1989;Rehkamper et al, 1991;Alma and Bee de Speroni, 1992;Bee de Speroni and Carezzano, 1995;Carezzano and Bee de Speroni, 1995;Ebinger, 1995;Ebinger and Röhrs, 1995;Fernandez et al, 1997;Pistone et al, 2002]. In all cases, similar borders were used to define each of the three regions.…”

“…Additional data for 31 specimens was obtained from several sources [ table 1 ; Boire, 1989;Carezzano and Bee-de-Speroni, 1995;Pistone et al, 2002]. This included 27 additional species.…”
