Oxane HD and Retinal Detachment Surgery in Routine Clinical Practice

Although not directly comparable, our anatomical results seem reasonable when viewed alongside results reported in other Oxane HD series, which range from 53.6–89.5% total retinal reattachment after the primary surgery, and from 80.0–93.9% eventual anatomical success [5,7,8,9,10]. A prospective trial comparing vitrectomy with Oxane HD against 1,300-cs silicone oil combined with segmental scleral buckling for rhegmatogenous RD with inferior retinal breaks reported similar reattachment rates in both groups 6 months after tamponade removal (80 vs. 90%, p > 0.05) [10].…”

Efficacy and safety of heavy silicone oil Densiron 68® in the treatment of complicated retinal detachment with large inferior retinectomy

“…These considerations led to the development of vitreous tamponade with a specific gravity greater than that of intraocular fluid. The effects of the heavy silicone oils Oxane Hd® [18,29] and Densiron 68® [9,21,22,30] were recently evaluated in complicated RD. We assume that the closure of inferior breaks and retinectomies by heavy oil may prevent the diffusion of proliferative cells into the vitreous cavity and at the same time allows the formation of laser coagulation scars and the quieting down of the PVR process.…”
