Tannic acid as corrosion inhibitor for metals and alloys

Abstract: Reduction of environmental impacts caused by pollution harmful to metals and alloys is very important. The atmospheric corrosion is a serious problem due to economic and environmental losses. Thus it is important to properly prevent corrosion phenomena. Tannic acid is one of natural, non-toxic, and environment friendly inhibitors of corrosion. The inhibitive action of tannic acid was investigated using linear polarization resistance method. The corrosion parameters: corrosion potential and current as well as p… Show more

“…Tannic acid (TA) (Fig. 1), which belongs to the class of natural, non-toxic and environmentally friendly compounds has been reported recently as corrosion inhibitor for steel, Cu and Zn in atmospheric condition [11]. The results obtained indicate that steel was the least protected while Cu was the best protected.…”

“…In oilfield mining and industrial pickling, the extensive use of hydrochloric acid has caused severe corrosion to metal pipes and equipment, and thus induced huge economic losses and serious environmental pollution. [1][2][3] A good solution to this problem is to use corrosion inhibitors due to their excellent inhibition efficiency and considerable economic benefit. The reported inhibitors against steel corrosion in acidic medium are usually heterocyclic organic compounds containing highly electronegative atoms in their molecular structures, such as nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, phosphorus, unsaturated bonds, or large conjugation system.…”
