Abstract:Liver X receptors (LXRs) are members of the nuclear receptor superfamily of ligand-dependent transcription factors. LXRα is predominantly expressed in metabolic tissues, whereas LXRβ is ubiquitously expressed. Upon ligand binding, they regulate the expression of target genes involved in lipid metabolism, cholesterol homeostasis, and immune responses, including those which function in pathways that are commonly reprogrammed during carcinogenesis. Known LXR ligands include oxysterols and natural and synthetic ag… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
