This study delves into the sustainability initiatives within the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program across U.S. states. By reviewing state Qualified Allocation Plans (QAPs), the research assesses the emphasis placed on green building standards within the LIHTC program over time. The research questions this work seeks to answer are: (1) To what extent are green building standards a priority in the LIHTC program across states? (2) How has this priority changed from 2015 to 2023? The data come from QAPs and states’ Housing Finance Agency (HFAs) website. Through content analysis methods, I explore how green building standards contribute to enhancing the sustainability of low-income housing projects, shedding light on the program’s role in promoting sustainable housing solutions.
