Taxonomic and faunistic study of Aulacidae (Hymenoptera, Evanioidea) from Iran, with illustrated key to species

Abstract: Aulacidae are parasitoids of wood-boring larvae of Hymenoptera and Coleoptera, known in all zoogeographic regions of the World, except Antarctic. Two aulacids, Pristaulacus compressus (Spinola, 1808) and the rare Pristaulacus mourguesi Maneval, 1935, have been recently collected from Iran, the latter being a new record. “…These characters were examined using established reference materials including standard published keys [52,53] catalogs and electronic keys [54][55][56]. In the present study, we follow the family and subfamily classifications [18,[57][58][59] with additional resolution from the published articles [60,61]. Identification was also performed by comparison with the help of other available Hymenopteran specimens already identified in the collections of Hymenopteran insects housed at National Insect Museum, National Agricultural Research Centre, Islamabad Pakistan (https://www.parc.gov.pk/).…”

“…They are closely related to the Gasteruptiidae family, sharing the characteristic of having the first and second metasomal tergites fused together, and having the head on a long pronotal neck, although they are not as slender and elongated as the gasteruptiids, and they have more sculpted chests. They share the evanioid trait of having the metasoma fixed high above the posterior thighs on the propodus (Figure 1) [1][2][3] .…”
