Taxonomic revision of Amorimia W.R. Anderson (Malpighiaceae)

Abstract: -(Taxonomic revision of Amorimia W.R. Anderson (Malpighiaceae)). The taxonomic revision of Amorimia (Malpighiaceae) is presented, including typifi cations, and descriptions for all accepted species. The genus is endemic to Seasonally Dry Tropical Forests and Rainforests of South America, and its species can be distinguished by morphological details of leaves, indumenta, infl orescences, fl owers, and fruits. This study includes an identifi cation key for the subgenera and species of Amorimia, illustrations, di… Show more

“…Among the new chromosome records for the other families, stand out Amorimia septentrionalis, Eugenia zigzag and Utricularia quelchii. Amorimia was the only Neotropical genus of the Malpighioid clade (Malpighiaceae) without chromosome records (Almeida, 2018). The number 2n = 20 for A. septentrionalis presented here is similar to that found in closely related genera, especially Malpighia L. and Mascagnia (DC.)…”

“…Recently, Almeida et al (2017) proposed two new subgenera for Amorimia; A. exotropica was placed in the subgenus Amorimia. As the epithet makes reference to, this species is distributed outside the tropics and, according to Almeida (2018), it should be regarded as Endangered in Brazil. It is easily recognized by the hairy petals on the abaxial surface, bracts with 1-2 basal glands (Fig.…”

“…Despite recent taxonomic and phylogenetic studies concerning the family Malpighiaceae (Almeida et al 2016(Almeida et al , 2017Almeida 2018), in the South Region of Brazil, floristic studies of the family are still lacking. Monographs of Malpighiaceae genera and extensive taxonomic revisions generally do not account for specimens that are in border areas between biogeographical regions and do not cover particular morphological data in addition to not providing taxonomic tools applicable at a regional scale.…”
