“…Other herpetologists visited the Península de Paria and made important collections (e.g., Stefan Gorzula in 1978, Jose Ayarzagüena in 1996) but no additional species have been described from their material. With the completion of more extensive collections by several Venezuelan and international research teams, additional species and observations on poorly known species were recently published (e.g., Anadia pariaensis- Rivas et al 2012;Strabomantis biporcatus-Barrio-Amorós & Kaiser 2008;Mannophryne riveroi-Barrio-Amorós et al 2010a;Riama rhodogaster-Rivas et al 2005; Taeniophallus nebularis . This study continues the trend of discovery for the Paria area with the description of five hitherto unrecognized species of Pristimantis.…”

“…A broad nude area occupies at least 50% of the asulcate face. Some damages at the basis of the organ precluded the detection of the isolated horizontal flounces on the proximal-central region of the asulcate face that are often present in species of Cercosaurinae (e.g., Kok and Rivas 2011, Nunes 2011, Rivas et al 2012, Sánchez-Pacheco et al 2011). …”

“…The primarily North Andean genus Anadia Gray, 1845 currently consists of 18 species (Myers et al, 2009;Kok & Rivas, 2011;Rivas et al, 2012b) mostly distributed in Costa Rica and Panama, and along a southwest-northeast arc which connects the Northern Andes in Ecuador to the Colombian Andes and the Eastern Coastal Range in Venezuela. More than half of the currently known species are from Venezuela (Rivas et al, 2012a), suggesting a possible centre of radiation for the genus in that region.…”

“…The only comprehensive review of the genus is that of Oftedal (1974), which includes only 11 of the currently known species, arranged in five species groups primarily distinguished by the condition of scalation and femoral pores. Recent new species descriptions (Myers et al, 2009;Kok & Rivas, 2011), revalidation of Anadia pamplonensis (Harris & Ayala, 1987), new distributional records (García-Pérez & La Marca, 1989), as well as new data about poorly known species (Rivas et al, 2012b) contributed to a better systematic knowledge of the genus.…”
