TCTP overexpression is associated with the development and progression of glioma

Abstract: Upregulation of translationally controlled tumor protein (TCTP) has been reported in a variety of malignant tumors. However, the impact of TCTP in glioma remains unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the expression and prognostic value of TCTP in glioma patients. Western blot analysis was used to characterize the expression patterns of TCTP in 45 glioma and 22 normal brain tissues. Immunohistochemistry on a tissue microarray containing 127 cases of glioma was performed to analyze the associat… Show more

“…It has been shown to play an important role not only in physiological events, such as cell proliferation, cell death and immune responses, but also in stress response and tumor reversion (Wang et al, 2013;Ma et al, 2010;Lee et al, 2008;Susini et al, 2008;Dong et al, 2009;Nagano-Ito et al, 2012;Miao et al, 2013). Many researches show that TCTP level in tumor is higher than that in the corresponding normal tissues, indicating its critical role in tumorigenesis (Amson et al, 2011;Amson et al, 2013).…”

“…Increased TCTP levels are detected in a range of human tumours [2,3,15], and a high TCTP status has been proposed as a prognostic marker for a poor outcome in breast cancer [16], hepatocellular cancer [17], and in gliomas [18]. A solid understanding of how TCTP levels are regulated in cancer cells is therefore urgently required.…”

“…Comparing to normal tissue, the level of TCTP is increased in many human cancer tissues, such as breast, colorectal, prostate and lung cancer (Arcuri et al 2004;Deng et al 2006;Kim et al 2008;Slaby et al 2009). Therefore, in recent years, more and more attention is paid to the involvement of TCTP on tumor reversion because of its critical role in tumorigenesis (Miao et al 2013;Nagano-Ito and Ichikawa 2012). It is now recognized as a therapeutic target in several cancers (Acunzo et al 2014).…”
