Teaching short‐circuit withstand test on power transformers to M.Sc. students and junior engineers using MATLAB‐SIMULINK

Abstract: This article describes an efficient method of teaching short-circuit withstand test on power transformer to power system graduate students and junior power engineers. The purpose of the presented method could be a part of a high-voltage course for M.Sc. students in electrical engineering departments and a train for junior engineers in industry. The article shows how to simulate the components of testing circuit and transformer to teach them the test. Evaluation of the simulations with 20 students and 20 junior… Show more

“…Practicability of control methods and parameter settings through some simulation software and their remote controllability provides convenience to engineering students in the learning of automatic control systems [9], [24]. Moreover, the simulation software's eliminate the need of an experiment set required for engineering courses [25]. However, this type teaching and learning makes difficult the adaptation of engineering students to actual systems.…”

“…The TPS has been implemented in MATLAB, because it integrates computation, visualization, and programming in an easy‐to‐use environment where problems and solutions are expressed in familiar mathematical notation . When designing the TPS, special care was given to its graphical user interface (GUI), as it helps the user arrive at the final solution by visualizing each step of the design process .…”
