Technique of the double-channel ESD method performed with an EEMR tube

Abstract: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) recently has been aggressively performed to treat superficial esophageal cancer; however, it is difficult to secure a good field of view for mucosal dissection, and the technique requires considerable skill. We have developed a doublechannel ESD method using an endoscopic esophageal mucosal resection (EEMR) tube that makes it possible to perform the submucosal dissection with a good field of view while applying countertraction. Countertraction is achieved by maneuvering a… Show more

“…Although tremendous advances in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, 5-year survival rate of the patients with ESCC remains less than 10 % [4]. Due to difficult diagnosis at an early stage, the patients with ESCC display a poor outcome [5]. Most notably, 50-60 % of patients are diagnosed as esophageal cancer in an advanced stage [6].…”

“…Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a common malignant tumor of the digestive tract and is associated with a poor prognosis ( 1 , 2 ). Patients with ESCC often have a poor outcome as it is a difficult disease to diagnose at an early stage ( 3 , 4 ). Advanced esophageal cancer carries a particularly unfavorable prognosis due to the rapid spread of the tumor beyond the esophageal wall ( 5 , 6 ).…”
