Various industrial parts and equipment made of steel need to withstand demanding conditions. In order to increase performance and lifetime, surface processing and functional coatings can be applied. In this study we report on the evaluation of coated carbon steel with commercial corrosion-resistant powders Diamalloy 4276 and Woka 7502 by Oerlikon Metco, using thermal spraying. Further functionalization is performed by rendering thermal sprayed surfaces syperhydrophobic via gas phase deposition of trichloro-1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyl silane, (PFOTS). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, contact angle and water condensation studies reveal the protective properties of coatings prepared by both materials as well as the superiority of Diamalloy 4276 based coatings. Corrosion was evaluated under a harsh 20% w/w H2SO4 environment. Rendering the coating superhydrophobic improves water condensation under the tested conditions of high (80%) relative humidity.

Co3O4 nanoparticles (Co3O4-NPs) are synthesized using the facile solvothermal method. FT-IR and XRD spectroscopic analyses verify the creation of cobalt oxide nanoparticles with an average size of 13.20 nm. Furthermore, Zeta potential assessments were carried out to identify the electrical charge of the surface of the produced Co3O4-NPs, which was found to be -20.5 mV. In addition, the average pore size of Co3O4-NPs is 19.8 nm, and their BET surface area is 92.4 m/g. The study also concerned the effect of Co3O4-NPs on epoxy's improvement of mechanical and corrosion protection for carbon steel in salt solution. By including Co3O4-NPs in an epoxy (EP) coating, corrosion is effectively prevented by non-permeable protective coatings that effectively reduce the transfer of corrosion ions and oxygen.

Among oxygen sensors, types such as polymer-, ceramic-, or carbon-based ones may be distinguished. Particular interest in semiconductor metal oxide (SMO) sensors has recently been observed. This is due to their easy fabrication process, high control over the final product (dopants, posttreatment, etc.), and high concentration of oxygen vacancies, by which they show significant changes in electrical properties when exposed to analyte. In this review, different types of sensors are described and categorized. Importantly, their limitations, challenges and principles of sensing mechanism are also discussed, wherein attention is primarily paid to semiconductor metal oxide (SMO) oxygen sensors. This comprehensive review provides an in-depth analysis of the existing literature on planar SMO oxygen sensors, focusing on various materials, fabrication techniques, and sensing mechanisms. It also critically assesses the challenges and limitations in current research, offering insights into future directions for developing highly efficient and reliable sensors. Currently, most oxygen resistive sensors are a few micrometers thick and operate at high temperatures, which leads to high power consumption. To highlight importance of this topic, a market overview is also presented.
