Techno-Economic Analysis of Power Production by Using Waste Biomass Gasification

Abstract: Energy recovery from waste biomass can have significant impacts on the most pressing development challenges of rural poverty and environmental damages. In this paper, a techno-economic analysis is carried out for electricity generation by using timber and wood waste (T & WW) gasification in Iceland. Different expenses were considered, like capital, installation, engineering, operation and maintenance costs and the interest rate of the investment. Regarding to revenues, they come from of the electricity sale an… Show more

“…To mitigate serious climate change, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions must be reduced to net zero or even negative all over the world. Many experts indicate that we have to completely phase out fossil fuels and replace them with local and renewable energy sources such as solar, hydroelectric power, biofuels, and wind [1][2][3]. Among the various renewable energy sources, biomass is one of the most promising optional energy carriers that can be applied instead of conventional resources.…”

“…To overcome challenges regarding increasing carbon concentration and climate change, renewable energies like biomass, solar radiations and wind have been encouraged to be used because they do not emit greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, which plays an important function in global warming [1][2][3][4]. Recently, the interest in biofuels/biomass has grown because of the extensive consideration of sustainable sources of energy [5][6][7].…”

“…Consuming and burning fossil fuels for energy production has negatively affected modern health, society, and environment, which has led to increases of the application of renewable energy sources and alternative technologies to produce energy, heat, and power [1][2][3]. In the last few decades, interest in biomass has sharply increased because of the increased attention to sustainable energies [4][5][6][7].…”
