Technological Energy Efficiency Improvements in Glass-Production Industries and Their Future Perspectives in Italy

Abstract: The glass industry is highly energy-intensive, consuming approximately 500–700 million GJ each year. Replacing inefficient equipment with better-performing equipment is a good strategy to reduce the energy consumption of a glass plant. Since there are many alternative solutions, the choice of which technological improvement to implement is usually difficult. Therefore, a review of solutions to reduce energy consumption in a glass plant is pivotal. The literature offers similar studies, but they are not suffici… Show more

“…While elaborating the aspect of sustainability, respondents noted that some aspects should be there in every company. The aspects are as follows-energy efficiency, reusing, ineffective cabin emission and natural light [7]. As the workers or the employees in a business or in a global business, it is crucial to note the percentage of the aspects when doing a final business strategy to retain and regulate an effective workforce.…”

“…Another crucial limitation is the high initial investment costs associated with transitioning to an intelligent logistics system that implements sustainable practices [9]. Some studies, in fact, have shown how the deployment of technological solutions can enable energy efficiency in industrial processes, including logistics ones [21][22][23]. Moreover, advanced technologies, such as autonomous and semi-autonomous robots, are examples of solutions that require financial resources not always available in companies, especially in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) [24].…”

“…This property determines the formation of an amorphous glass structure, which in relation to the glassy state is of great theoretical and practical importance [1]. From a technological point of view, due to the high energy consumption of the entire process of melting the batch of raw materials and then forming the glass mass, a thorough analysis of the dependence of the glass mass viscosity on the temperature becomes justified [2,3]. Owing to the type of melted glass, the viscosity of the glass mass can change in different temperature ranges.…”
