“…The use of mobile phones to improve health has been shown (Campbell et al, 2014); in the United States, mHealth has improved maternal–child outcomes through increased engagement with home visitation programs (Carta, Lefever, Bigelow, Borkowski, & Warren, 2013; U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, & Maternal & Infant Health Initiative, 2015), reduced maternal depression and stress (Baker, Connelly, Hazen, Landsverk, & Horwitz, 2012; Carta et al, 2013), improved communication with Text4baby (Kaleka, Olsen, & Sweet, 2012), and decreased child abuse and neglect (Cowart-Osborne et al, 2014) with hard-to-reach populations. The practical applications and context-specific flexibility of the devices indicate that mobile phones are primed to play a significant role in providing CHWs support in decision making and improving health outcomes when used for teleconsultations with more highly skilled members of the health care team.…”
