“…Furthermore, one of the strength of this study, the focus on the indirect effect spanning from firm‐level empirical works, is also a possible limitation, the reason being that the microwedge vis‐à‐vis macrowedge or the direct vis‐à‐vis indirect wedge cannot be estimated by limiting the sample “by construction” to firm‐level studies on the indirect effect. On the difference between direct and indirect, see the excellent Iwasaki and Tokunaga (). On the micro versus macro, further research has been conducted by Bruno, Campos, and Estrin (), Rojec and Knell (), Alfaro et al.…”

“…Changes in global FDI trends and their macroeconomic impact have attracted substantial research. There is an expanding literature on the relationship between FDI and economic performance and a quite substantial number of empirical studies on European countries, both for old (EU‐15) and new Member States (NMS; Havránek & Iršová, , ; Iwasaki & Tokunaga, , ; Meyer & Sinani, and Tokunaga & Iwasaki, ). In particular, we would like to highlight three recent meta‐regression analyses by Iwasaki and Tokunaga focusing on transition countries, that is, the “Macroeconomic Impact of FDI in transition economies” (IT 2014), “The Determinants of FDI in Transition Economies” (TI 2017) and “Technology transfer and spillovers from FDI in transition economies” (IT 2016).…”

“…Meta-analysis is a tool for aggregating results across studies that are estimating the same or a similar 'effect'. It is increasingly popular as a research tool as evidenced by the frequency with which metaanalyses are published in top journals Iwasaki and Tokunaga, 2016;Card et al, 2017;Havranek et al, 2017;Andrews and Kasy, 2019;Hubler et al, 2019).…”
