Technopolis, shared resources or controlled mobility? A net-based Delphi-study to explore visions of future urban daily mobility in Norway

Abstract: It is widely recognized that transformation of urban areas are urgent to meet the demands for more efficient and environmental friendly transportation in the future. Although there are general agreements on the need for change, different ideas and visions for the future dominate across different groups of stakeholders and academics. In this paper we explore various views on the future of everyday travelling in urban regions, 30-40 years ahead, focussing in particular on four larger urban areas in Norway. Based… Show more

“…On the one hand, Delphi, similarly as scenarios, is set into everyday routines and undertakes issues related to the local government, policy, market [112], and customer preferences [117]. Furthermore, Delphi sets its actions in the long-distance futures of the year (e.g., 2050 [118]) and endeavors the most probable [117,119] desirable [117], and preferable futures [120]. Despite some limitations, [113] claim that Delphi creates futures, rather than predict them; therefore, this is the valuable method when dealing with intense and uncertain changes over an extended period.…”

“…The business stakeholders, shippers, and freight operators had the same priorities [68], which were mainly focused on the economic dimension [77,85]. Nevertheless, it should be noted that still, stakeholder analysis in areas of crowdsourcing, urban development, urban logistics, mobility, and CL should be improved, and more empirical studies are needed to address the problem of their needs and characteristics [86][87][88].…”

“…Because the primary methods in the identified literature were interviews and surveys on stakeholders' needs, the hybrid approach was chosen (Delphi method and interview) to address the requirements of the reliable research results and valuable insights. Multiple researchers have used the Delphi method in their research in the city logistics field, exploring future mobility [97], multi-stakeholder scenarios for its development [39,40], and societal trends on urban public transport, to name a few [98]. Therefore, it was recognized as the proper method for this study.…”
