“…For example, Mulford and Giordano (2008) note that teenage boys and girls are much more likely to be on equal footing than, for example, a couple in which the woman has to care for children and must rely on her male partner to financially provide for her. In a study of over 1,300 adolescents, Giordano (as cited in Mulford & Giordano, 2008) found that, while most boys and girls reported having an "equal say" in their relationship, when there was a power imbalance it tended to favor the girls. A failure to address bidirectional or girlperpetrated violence, therefore, may leave many teens feeling that the violence in their relationships isn't dangerous or problematic, which in turn may decrease the likelihood that they would seek help for such relationships or try to change their behavior.…”
